Augusto Boal

March 1931- May 2009Augusto Boal, was the founder of the invisible theatre and the legislative theatre.

Invisible Theatre- founded in the early 1980's
The goal of this theatre is to understand social reality and then be able to change it.

The invisible theatre involved actors going into a pre-decided area and they would act/ improvise a social reality, and make people think about the issue at had.

....From the Invisible Theatre came the Legislative Theatre.


Legislative Theatre was founded in the early 1990's
Where drama would go beyond just actors and allow others to join in along with them.

This no only was a new kind of performance it was also used as a medium to change social reality

As a legislator of Brazil, Boal used theatre as a way to work out issues in the community and to discuss laws with people on the street.
